A PROVEN MANAGER AND EXECUTIVE
Luke has the experience and the record to bring leadership, accountability and action to Hartford’s City Hall. He served as chief of staff to the President of The Hartford’s Property and Casualty Company, one of Hartford’s largest employers. He served in the Obama Administration as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Treasury Department, leading the office charged with choking off the funds that support terrorist groups like Al Qaeda, rogue regimes like Iran and Syria, and international organized crime. And for the past two years, he was Governor Malloy’s General Counsel, closely involved in every aspect of Connecticut state government as the Governor’s chief lawyer. As a U.S. Navy officer, he served in Afghanistan on the military’s anti-corruption task force. He knows how to manage, he knows how government works, and he knows how to get things done.
EXPERIENCE WITH STATE AND FEDERAL PARTNERS
The next Mayor of Hartford must know how to secure the cooperation of federal and state government to help Hartford reach its potential. Luke has the knowledge, the experience, and the relationships to make that happen. When he worked in the Obama Administration, Luke worked closely with Congress on a number of issues, including the passage of the Dodd Frank Act and the development of policies to choke off funds for terrorists. He also worked side by side with White House officials and leaders of other federal agencies on a daily basis. When he served as the Governor’s General Counsel, he partnered with legislators and state agency officials to advance the governor’s agenda, and he was deeply involved in developing policies to combat veterans’ homelessness, expand economic opportunities, reform our criminal justice system, and protect our environment. Using his deep understanding of state and federal government from within, Luke will work tirelessly to forge stronger relationships between Hartford and state and federal partners.
Luke and his wife Sara live on Elm Street with their three kids, ages six, four, and one. Luke proudly serves on the boards of the Hartford Public Library and the Amistad Center for Arts and Culture, two great Hartford institutions. When Luke and Sara moved to Hartford in 2006 from New Haven, they fell in love with Hartford’s cultural diversity, world-class entertainment, beautiful parks, vibrant small businesses, and most of all, the amazing people. They knew it was the place they wanted to raise their family, and they are committed to Hartford and to Hartford’s future.
Luke is a partner at the law firm Hinckley Allen, a great firm with some of the region’s finest lawyers. But his heart remains in public service, and that’s why he’s running to be Mayor of Hartford.
